After 19 years, Adrian Newey leaves Red Bull i Formula 1. It was revealed by German Cars, motors and sports last week and we also wrote regarding it here on the F1 blog.
At the time, the information was not confirmed. Now they are.
Red Bull announces that Adrian Newey will leave the team in the first quarter of 2025, he will step back from his duties as a Formula 1 designer to focus on the final development and delivery of Red Bull’s first hypercar, the highly anticipated RB 17. He will remain involved and committed to the project until its completion.
It will probably be during the year.
– Ever since I was a young boy I wanted to be a designer of fast cars. My dream was to be an engineer in Formula 1, and I have been lucky enough to realize that dream. For nearly two decades, it has been a great honor for me to have played a key role in Red Bull’s progress, from newcomer to multiple champions. But I feel that it is an opportune time to hand over the baton to others and to seek new challenges for myself. In the meantime, the final stages of development of the RB 17 are here, so for the remaining time with the team, my focus will be there, said Adrian Newey in a comment.

It sounds like he will bide his time there, until the first quarter of next year and then be ready to do something else.
What is not clear, but stable as FerrariMcLaren, Audi, Aston Martin and others Mercedes are very interested in attaching him to themselves. It has been rumored that Mercedes are interested in luring both Newey, Helmut Marko and Max Verstappen to the team. All to be ready for the next big rule change in 2026.
At the same time, information comes from Italian Gazzetta dello Sport. The newspaper writes that Frederic Vasseur, team manager at Ferrari, traveled to London already yesterday to meet Newey. According to the newspaper, it is likely that Newey’s deal with Ferrari will be announced shortly following the F1 in Miami this coming weekend.

Is Ferrari recruiting Newey?
If Ferrari succeeds in signing Newey, 65, it will be the team’s second major prestige signing in just a couple of months. In January, Lewis Hamilton was presented as the driver for the team in 2025.
Newey will not have time to participate in developing the car until next year, but he can already start thinking regarding upcoming regulations and the big change that will take place by 2026.
It might be a winning concept for the stable that manages to tie him to them.

– More than that, the last 19 years with Adrian have been enormously fun. For me, Adrian was already a superstar when he came to Red Bull. Two decades and 13 championship titles later, he leaves as a true legend.
Adrian Newey is a super designer, the man who is said to be able to see the air around an F1 car. He won World Championship titles with Williams and McLaren before joining Red Bull. During his years at the stable, he designed cars that won 13 World Championship titles in 20 seasons.
