The concept is simple: take the first F-Zero and multiply the number of competitors, launch 99 supersonic cars onto a multi-colored track, and see the chaos unleashed. To stay in the race, you will have to protect your energy gauge, which decreases with each impact with your opponents or the walls of the circuit, and which you can also burn to fuel your turbo. A risk-reward balance to master in the surrounding chaos.
Demolition Derby in space
Collisions between vehicles generate super sparks to collect to raise a special gauge which, once filled, temporarily opens the doors to the “heavenly way”, an alternative route overlooking the rest of the race. Ideal for preserving your car and overtaking without sweating.
As with any self-respecting battle royale, F-Zero 99 also includes cosmetics to unlock during in-game missions, such as alternative colors, stickers or special boost trails to show off in front of the competition. Otherwise, all content from the original game is preserved.
F-Zero 99 is offered exclusively to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers (at no additional cost). To find a little taste of yesteryear, you can play with the SNES controller for Switch on sale in the official store – also reserved for NSO subscribers.
