F-35 Lightning II Delivery Delays: Danish Ministry of Defense Updates and Commitments to Ukraine

The Danish Ministry of Defense has already officially announced delays in F-35 Lightning II deliveries. However, this will not affect the Scandinavian country’s commitments to Ukraine.

Here’s what we know

Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen plans to discuss with Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin the reasons for these delays and ways to get out of this situation. The Royal Air Force requires fifth generation combat aircraft to fulfill its missions locally and internationally.

F-35 Lightning II deliveries to Denmark were scheduled for the first half of 2024. Due to issues with the Technology Refresh 3 (TR-3) upgrade, Lockheed Martin will not deliver the aircraft to Denmark until second half of the year.

Despite the delays, Denmark will respect its commitments to NATO and Ukraine. These include the training of Ukrainian pilots and the delivery of F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters. Previously, the Scandinavian country officially confirmed that it would transfer 19 fourth-generation aircraft to the Ukrainian Air Force.
