EYE! Definitive closure of the Guarne – Rionegro section due to works on the José María Córdova Airport road interchange

As part of the commitment to the road development of Eastern Antioquia, the Government of Antioquia and the Aburrá Oriente Túnel Concession inform the community and users of the roads near the José María Córdova airport that, as of December 11, 2024, it will be implemented the closure of the Guarne – Rionegro section of the airport’s external roundabout to advance with the José María Córdova road interchange project, with the construction and connection of the side walls of the access ramp to the bridge that will directly connect the Oriente Tunnel with the airport, which is expected to be put into service in February of next year.

Vehicles coming from Guarne and heading towards the airport or Rionegro must go to the Sajonia roundabout and return to the Sajonia – Airport dual carriageway to continue their route. Likewise, vehicles going from the José María Córdova international airport to Rionegro must also go to the Sajonia roundabout to continue their journey.

This measure is endorsed by the Municipality of Rionegro through Resolution 2310 of December 4, 2023, in which the project’s traffic management plan is authorized. Modifications to the vehicular flow will be carried out in a controlled manner with regulatory signage to ensure the mobility and safety of users throughout the process.

The construction of the José María Córdova road interchange is part of the purpose of providing roads for security and competitiveness in Eastern Antioquia, by improving road infrastructure and thus strengthening connections between the Aburrá and San Nicolás valleys.

Regarding this closure and the arrival of the end-of-year season, users of this important road corridor are recommended:

1. Consult official information on the state of departmental roads on the social networks of the Government of Antioquia or on the website www.antioquia.gov.co. For national roads you can consult the Invías networks or go to www.invias.gov.co.
2. Find out about the closures implemented on the roads due to the works that are being carried out on the Tunnel’s social networks.
3. Avoid lines and pay the toll electronically.
4. If you have a scheduled flight from the José María Córdova airport, plan your trip in advance and arrive at the air terminal in advance.
5. Keep all vehicle documents up to date.
6. Carry out preventive inspection of the vehicle.
7. Do not drive under the influence of alcohol or narcotic substances.
8. To pay tolls in cash, try to have the exact value.
9. Do not park on main roads or perform dangerous maneuvers.
10. Always respect the different road actors.
11. Respect traffic signs and speed limits.

A month ago, the Government of Antioquia installed a Unified Command Post that monitors mobility in road interchange works on weekends.

As of this closure, the PMU will operate permanently with the participation of the Túnel Aburrá Oriente concession, the Antioquia Road Safety Management, Devimed, Airplan, the Police Traffic Directorate and the Rionegro Mayor’s Office.
