EYDAP activates additional sources of support

The Managing Director of EYDAP Haris Sahinis told APE-MPE that these “sources” are the springs and boreholes of Mavrosouvala north of Parnitha but also in the wider area of Attikovoiotia. It is also pumped from Yiliki’s reserves.

As he pointed out, EYDAP is closely monitoring the water shortage problem, but for the time being there is no need to take restrictive measures on consumption. We have, he said, been running a campaign with recommendations to the world for a long time and for now we are waiting for their voluntary response.

If there are no rains and snowfalls in winter things will be different. Then we will go into red now we are still in yellow not even orange.

According to Mr. Sahini, in the last two years, the lack of rain has significantly reduced water reserves. In the event that the drought continues in the coming years due to climate change, the Ministry of the Environment and Energy is already helping to find alternative solutions based on the lowest possible economic and environmental costs, such as the inclusion of new reservoirs, the enrichment of the underground aquifer with recycled water and desalination.

In any case, Mr. Sahinis noted, people must be careful and not waste water.

He also clarified that there is no question of price hike in consumption tariffs.
