Accordingly, there is only increased danger on Wednesday on the Peloponnese peninsula, in the region around the capital Athens and on the southern half of the island of Euboea.

After weeks of drought across the country, wind conditions and temperatures also play an important role in assessing the danger. Both factors should remain moderate in the next few days – according to the state weather service, the daytime temperatures on Wednesday will be around 30 degrees.

However, there are still smaller forest and bush fires, on Tuesday in Crete and in the Attica region near the capital Athens, among other places, as the fire department announced on Twitter. Because there was no strong wind anywhere, the fires were quickly contained. The fire brigade counts dozens of such fires every day.

According to initial estimates by the authorities, a good 43,000 hectares of forest, bush land and agricultural land have been destroyed by the flames in Greece in the past four weeks. Around 1,470 forest and bush fires were counted, some of them of devastating proportions. In many places, villages were evacuated as a precaution, and ten days ago on Rhodes, a good 19,000 tourists had to be brought to safety from hotels. A total of five people died in fires in other regions of the country, including two pilots of a fire-fighting plane that crashed during the fire-fighting work.
