Extreme Precautions Urged as Hurricane “Norma” Strengthens: Latest Updates from National Meteorological Service

After 9:00 a.m. this Thursday, Hurricane “Norma” increased its intensity and is now classified as Category 4, on the Saffir-Simpson scale and has maximum sustained winds of 215km/h.

According to the latest report from the National Meteorological Service (SMN) of the National Water Commission (With water) the meteorological phenomenon is moving 11 kilometers north towards Baja California Sur.

The agency reported that “Norma” is expected to make landfall next Saturday the 21st.

The meteor is located 355 kilometers southwest of Playa Pérula, Jalisco, and 655 kilometers south-southeast of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur.

According to him SMN “Norma” advances with great force and establishes a hurricane zone in Baja California Sur.

The cloud bands of “Norma” will cause intense occasional rains in Jalisco and Colima; very heavy rains in Nayarit, Michoacán and Guerrero.

Such precipitation might cause flooding and landslides, as well as increase the level of rivers and streams in those entities.

Likewise, the possibility of showers increases in Sinaloa and Baja California Sur.

In addition, gusts of wind of 90 to 110 km/h are expected on the coasts of Jalisco, Colima and Michoacán, with the formation of waterspouts and waves of 3 to 5 meters high; as well as gusts of 60 to 80 km/h on the coasts of Baja California Sur, Nayarit and Guerrero.

A surveillance zone is maintained from the communities of Todos Santos to Los Barriles, in Baja California Sur.
