A heat wave hits Southern Europe.

According to a BBC report on the 13th, temperatures in parts of Spain, France, Greece, Croatia and Turkey are expected to exceed 40 degrees Celsius in the next few days. Especially in Italy, the temperature is expected to rise to 48.8 degrees Celsius. Red warnings have been issued in 10 cities, including Rome and Florence. All of southern Europe, including Seville in Spain at 41 degrees, Pogia in Italy at 42 degrees, and Larissa in Greece at 41 degrees, is suffering from scorching heat.

The Italian Meteorological Society has also given the name “Cerberus” to extreme heat waves. It is the name of the three-headed gatekeeper in Greek mythology. Public interest and concern are growing to the extent that heat waves are named following typhoons and hurricanes.

The heat wave is expected to continue into the weekend, according to the BBC. It is expected that the heat of around 50 degrees Celsius will be plagued everywhere in Southern Europe.

The problem is that this heat is not unusual. An Italian meteorologist warns that “if Cerberus dies, the next heat wave will be called Charon the ferryman, who leads the dead souls to the underworld.”

Heat killed 61,672 people in Europe last year. Italy had the most heat-related deaths with 18,010. Spain and Germany also had 11,324 and 8,173 deaths respectively. Meteorologists fear even more damage this year. The average global temperature in June was the warmest in the past June.
