mMany of us can’t stand even the slightest chill in winter. But there are many countries in the world that live in extreme cold that Indians can’t even think regarding. Scandinavian countries Finland and Sweden are currently in the news due to extreme cold. In these countries, where winter has reached its peak, the temperature recorded in the last few days is minus 40 degrees.
Wednesday, January 3, was Sweden’s coldest day in 25 years. The temperature recorded that day was minus 43.6 degrees. The situation was similar in neighboring Finland. Extreme cold has affected people’s lives in both the countries. Transport systems were disrupted. Highways and ferry services were suspended.
Train services were also disrupted in many parts of Sweden. The situation is critical in rural areas. As the temperature dropped to minus 30 degrees, government agencies had issued warnings in Sweden. On Wednesday, the people became worried following the extreme caution was issued. In Finland, the weather is severe in the northwest. The forecast of the weather department is that the situation will continue for the next week and the temperature will go down to minus 40 degrees. Helsinki, the capital of Finland, recorded minus 15 to 20 degrees.
In the southern Norwegian city of Arendal, schools and educational institutions were closed due to extreme cold. All public roads are blocked by snow and people are unable to go out. Many bridges in both countries have been closed due to strong winds. At the same time, many Norwegian regions also host celebrations and sports events, including ice hockey, as part of the snowfall.
