JAKARTA, DISWAY.ID– BRIN Space Research Center Associate Expert Researcher Tiar Dani revealed the secrets of the sun by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI).

Where, he discovered the dynamics of solar activity and predicted its impact on the earth, from hot flashes to coronal mass ejections which could affect technology on earth.

For your information, weather in space can have an impact on satellite interference, radio communications, electricity networks, oil pipeline networks, GPS interference, and even radio communication interference on earth.

Therefore, it is very important to know solar activity to mitigate its impacts on the earth.

“Because if we can’t predict there will be economic losses,” explained Dani at an online press conference, October 4 2024.

He explained that the use of AI was carried out using parameters or features from sunspot data from the past 3 days.

“The use of AI is carried out using parameters or features from sunspot data from the past 3 days to predict flare classes using the random forest method which is classic machine learning,” he explained.

Machine learning and deep learning (AI) can detect patterns and predict solar activity with an unprecedented level of accuracy and speed.

Then, the dataset is entered into several trees or decision trees which will produce predictions to produce solar flare predictions.

This dataset is usually obtained from large numbers of satellites observing the sun.

The solar flare prediction model requires data from sunspots which includes location, area, number of spots, and magnetics.

This data is input into an algorithm and trained to be able to predict the latest data with a certain level of accuracy.

AI and the Sun: A Little Whimsical Symphony of Technology!

So, folks, gather ‘round because it seems that the brilliantly bright minds at BRIN Space Research Center have found a way to cozy up with the sun using none other than artificial intelligence! Yes, you heard that right—AI isn’t just for recommending cat videos on YouTube anymore!

Tiar Dani, an Associate Expert Researcher (which sounds remarkably fancy!), has unveiled the sun’s secrets. Apparently, he discovered that the sun has a few tricks up its sleeve, like hot flashes and coronal mass ejections, all of which can have devastating fallout here on our lovely blue planet. Talk about being impacted by the sun when you’re just trying to send a cheeky text!

The Cosmic Peeping Tom

Picture this: sunny days are actually a bit of an economic risk! Dani explains that the weather in space—yes, that’s a thing—can wreak havoc on technology here on Earth. We’re talking satellite meltdowns, GPS shenanigans, and good old-fashioned radio interference, as if our DJ wasn’t spinning enough hits!

“If we can’t predict, there will be economic losses,” Dani warned. You see, it’s not just about sunbathing; it’s about keeping our economy from crashing while we’re trying to enjoy our holiday barbeques!

AI’s Shiny New Toy: The Sun!

Now, let’s get to the nitty-gritty: how are these brilliant folks using AI to solve the solar puzzle? It turns out they’re using past data from sunspots—not the kind where the sunburn sets in, mind you—the kind that are like cosmic dots on an invisible canvas!

Utilizing a method called “random forest,” which sounds like a hipster retreat for trees, they’re diving into sunspot data from the past three days to forecast flare classes. I mean, who knew the cosmos could be so trendy? Machine learning is detecting patterns and predicting solar activity with more accuracy than your friend trying to guess the plot twist of the latest blockbuster!

Data: The Cosmic Cookbook!

Spoiler alert: The dataset needed for these predictions is cooked up from a treasure trove of satellites observing the sun. It includes all the juicy details—location, area, number of spots, and even the magnetic frizz. This data goes through an algorithmic blender that prepares it for cosmic predictions… all served with a side of finesse.

Final Thoughts: Our Cosmic Crystal Ball

So, as the world becomes ever more intertwined with technology, one has to wonder: will this shiny new AI be our trusty crystal ball for the solar system? Or will it lead us on a wild goose chase while the sun plays hide and seek with its neutrinos?! Only time will tell, so don’t forget to look up—preferably without the shades!
