Extra vitamin D – most people don’t need it – SWR Aktuell

Especially now in winter, many people worry that they might not be getting enough vitamins through their normal diet and are taking vitamin pills as well. Not all of them really do anything. Too high a dose of certain vitamins can even be harmful. During the corona pandemic, sales of over-the-counter vitamin D supplements have doubled. Sustainability expert Katja Schickling made a film regarding such preparations for the SWR format “betreff”.
SWR Aktuell presenter Florian Rudolph talks to her, among other things, regarding the study situation on vitamin D. This states, for example, that the administration of additional vitamin D does not change the state of health of patients whose vitamin D levels are too low. Sustainability expert Schickling explains in the audio why we usually cannot cover our vitamin D requirement with nutrition, but why hardly anyone really needs additional vitamin D supplements.
