Retired workers will be able to continue to work in the health care sector to strengthen the ranks in the face of staff shortages. The measure put in place in July 2022 remains in effect until next September.
The Chamber adopted a bill in plenary session on Thursday aimed at extending the measure allowing pensioners to work in the care sector, in order to cope with the staff shortage.
The measure which concerns pensioners aged over 65 or pensioners from July 1, 2022 will remain in application until September 30, 2024, while it was due to end on September 30 of this year.
The federal government has ensured that people in this group can benefit from an exemption from personal social security contributions and that their income is taxed at a separate and advantageous rate of 33%.
This bill carried by the Minister of Public Health Frank Vandenbroucke was adopted by the majority, joined by the N-VA and Vlaams Belang. The PTB voted once morest. The Engagés and DéFI abstained.
The general discussion was held during last week’s plenary session, but the vote was postponed due to lack of quorum within the majority.
