“Extended Social Tariff for Gas and Electricity: Impacts and Changes for Vulnerable Households”

2023-05-26 14:57:27

The extended tariff was introduced in 2021. This tariff, which is less expensive than the standard tariffs, is aimed at households in a precarious situation such as, for example, people benefiting from a survivor’s income or who receive a disability allowance. The extension applied to those who received an increased allowance.

From July 1, this extended tariff disappears. These customers will return to the normal commercial gas and electricity market. This concerns more than 300,000 gas customers and 500,000 electricity customers, ie more than half a million households in total.

The Creg has calculated this total cost of the extended social tariff for 2021-2022 and the first two quarters of 2023 at nearly 1.7 billion euros, including 609 million for electricity and more than one billion for gas.
