Pay in full on time; Warning to private companies

Abu Dhabi: Authorities in the UAE have warned private companies to pay employees’ full wages (Wages) on time through bank accounts. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation issued a statement on Monday. The warning also says that companies will be fined if they fail to pay their salaries.

Payment should be made on the due dates through the ‘Wage Protection System’ in the country. The Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Human Resources and Indigenization said that workers have the right to be paid on time in return for the sincerity they show at work. He added that getting the right salary on the right dates will increase the productivity of the employees.

The UAE Wage Protection System was introduced in 2009 with the aim of ensuring that salaries are paid on time. The condition is that all the companies registered with the Ministry should pay their salaries through this system. For this you need to open a bank account in the UAE. Payments should be transferred from the employer’s account to the employee’s account through the Wage Protection System.

Failure to pay the salary within 10 days following the due date will result in a penalty to the company. The company will impose a fine of 5,000 dirhams on each worker for misrepresentation of salary. If the company misrepresents itself to a large number of workers, the fine can be as high as 50,000 dirhams. Failure to pay the worker on the due date will result in a fine of 1000 dirhams for the company.

If a fake salary slip is made in the name of a worker, the company will have to pay a fine of 5,000 dirhams in the name of each worker. Those who do not make payments through the Wage Protection System will not receive new work permits until all transactions have been finalized. Changes in pay should also be made through the Wage Protection System. The Under Secretary also said that all employees can use the facility to receive their account statements via e-mail.
