The Charleroi police made a macabre discovery on January 3 in an apartment building on rue du Basson in Marcinelle, indicates Sudinfo. A 9-year-old child was found locked in a small room of barely 2 m2, without light. It also lacked hygiene, suggesting that the child had been detained in these conditions for a while.

“The child was in a very small room, with only the bare minimum: a large wardrobe, taking up a large part of the space, and a foldable mattress unsuitable for his size”, communicated the Charleroi public prosecutor’s office to our colleagues. He was apparently only allowed out of his cubby to eat. “The little one was kept there regularly, sometimes for weeks or even months”continues the Carolo prosecution.

Still according to Sudinfo, the child’s mother and stepfather were presented this Friday before a magistrate. They were then placed under arrest warrant.
