The Federal Public Service (FPS) Justice on Friday put the public company bpost on notice to obtain more information on the excessively high office rent probably charged by Bpost, said a spokesperson for the FPS Justice, Edward Landtsheere, on Saturday.
The newspaper De Tijd revealed on Saturday that bpost charged 100,000 euros per month for two years for the rent of the offices at the Monnaie center in Brussels, when the amount should have been 100,000 euros per year.
The FPS Justice has already received “elements of an internal audit” on Wednesday through its lawyers, Mr. Landtsheere, who is spokesperson for Digitalization at the FPS Justice, said on Saturday. Which would prove that bpost “sneakily” tried to hide the excessive rent. The exchange of mail between bpost employees would be an illustration of this.
Asked regarding the lack of reaction from the FPS Justice, the spokesperson admitted that “neither internal control nor the Finance Inspector noted that the amounts were not in conformity with market rates”. But he was cautious in his comments. “We work on the basis of documents that we cannot fully consult and of which we do not receive all the attachments,” he further clarified.
In order to investigate the case itself and draw its own conclusions, the FPS must have all the documents, Mr Landtsheere stressed. Hence the formal notice.
