Exports of chip production equipment from the United States to China have halved

United States – At the end of winter and once morest the backdrop of the “microchip war” with China, the United States reduced the export of equipment necessary for its production there by 2.3 times, which is the minimum in several years.

This is indicated by data from the US Census Bureau obtained by RIA Novosti, which showed that exports of these products reached record numbers over several months recently.

The United States began selling equipment used to manufacture microchips and its spare parts to China at the end of 2006. After that, exports gradually increased until they reached a record level of $777 million in July 2021.

After that, supply volumes began to decline, falling for the first time in November 2022 to $246 million. This occurred once morest the backdrop of the first phase of the United States imposing restrictions on the export of chips and its equipment to China.

After that, Beijing once more began to increase its purchases of this equipment: the volume of supply in October 2023 reached its highest level since April 2021. But in February of this year, a new collapse occurred: these American exports fell 2.3 times during the month – to 226 million dollar.

As for the microchips themselves, their sales have also gradually increased since the beginning of this century. After experiencing some ups and downs between early 2005 and early 2012, exports of these goods to China gradually increased once more, reaching a record high of $1.2 billion in March 2021. This was followed by a decline to approximately $700-900 million in the middle of in 2022 and then collapsed to $308 million in April 2023. After that, microchip exports began to recover once more, reaching $539 million in December last year. It then dropped once more to $484 million in February 2024.

Last February, the US Secretary of Commerce expressed confidence in her country’s ability to absorb Silicon Valley’s supply of microchips, including those that are essential for artificial intelligence.

In October 2022, the United States announced the imposition of a number of restrictions on the export of equipment and components necessary for the production of microcircuits to Chinese companies.
