Exports generated more than USD 35 billion in 2023 – Jornal OPaís

Angolan exports allowed the State to raise US$35.8 billion in 2023, as shown by data from the General Tax Administration (AGT)

The total collected in 2023 is more than 13 billion dollars lower than the total collected in the river, when exports generated more than 48 billion dollars. Despite this, it cannot be pointed out as a negative performance, since, according to the data, it is necessary to go back to 2018 to find a better performance in exports.

China is the main destination for Angolan exports, but it is noteworthy that exports to that Asian country fell by more than 3 billion dollars. Thus, China has an impact on the reduction of Angolan exports, but for university professor Israel Bonifácio, the fact that Angolan exports have fallen by more than 13 billion makes him realize that this is not a drop that should be associated solely with the China factor.

The professor understands that there are other issues, perhaps more relevant, in the accounts of the drop in Angolan exports. The professor’s view finds some response in AGT data, which indicate that, in addition to China, exports to India also saw a large reduction, in the comparison between 2022 and 2023.

The data indicates that exports to India stood at 1.7 billion dollars in 2023, when in the previous year, for example, they had stood at more than 4.6 billion dollars. A drop not as large as the level of drop in exports to China, but undeniably significant, as it represents a drop of more than 50% from one year to the next. Added to this are other smaller falls, such as exports to the United States or the United Arab Emirates. Two associated reductions total more than one billion dollars.
