Expo2024: Colombian expert in regenerative livestock farming explained the benefits of the technique

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The “Sustainable or Regenerative Livestock Farming” conservatory convened this Thursday those interested in the sector at Expo 2024. With the presence of the representative of the Federation of Cattle Ranchers of Colombia, Manuel Gómez, the event took place in the meeting room of the Board of Directors of the Rural Association of Paraguay (ARP).

At the opening of the event, ARP First Vice President Mario Apodaca Guex said that “ARP supports everything that is sustainable, thus taking care of our great habitat.”

The main objective of the session was to share the results and lessons learned from the Colombian experience in the implementation of sustainable and regenerative livestock farming practices.

Sustainable livestock production focuses on meeting the needs of raising animals for food while minimizing negative environmental impacts.

Regenerative livestock farming, on the other hand, seeks to restore soil fertility and nutrient, energy and water cycles through practices such as planned rotational grazing, genetic adaptation of livestock to local conditions, restoration of wildlife habitats and prevention of erosion.

This approach is not only beneficial for the environment, but can also improve the quality of life of producers and the health of ecosystems, Gomez said.

Victor Vera, a board member of the event organizer, Tropical Forest Alliance, spoke about the great opportunities that regenerative livestock farming opens up for the entire world, especially considering the importance of targeting new and demanding markets.

This discussion allowed attendees to identify the actors interested in regenerative livestock farming in Paraguay and to validate the central guidelines of the process from action platforms that integrate and address the different aspects involved in its feasibility.
