Explosive Ordnance Abandoned: Building Evacuated and Rail Traffic Disrupted – Latest Updates and Delays

The package in question, consisting of two suitcases, had been abandoned in the building. As the authorities did not want to take any risks, the latter was closed and evacuated while awaiting the arrival of the Explosive Ordnance Removal and Destruction Service (Sedee). The ongoing interrogation of the owner will reveal whether it was an innocent oversight or whether the abandonment took place for a specific reason, local police said.

In addition, the operation caused significant disruption to rail traffic. In fact, train traffic will only be able to really resume from 12:00 p.m., SNCB communicated.

“Of course, all deviations and cancellations will still cause significant delays,” stressed the spokesperson for rail infrastructure manager Infrabel, Thomas Baeken. “In collaboration with SNCB, we will do everything in our power to ensure that all trains run on time, before the evening rush hour.”

The Diamant premetro station has also been reopened. The Flemish public transport company De Lijn, however, indicated that travelers should expect significant delays.
