Fans of heavy, aggressive music who consider the Festival d’été de Québec has cast them aside, over the years, were finally spoiled for a furious metal night featuring Lamb of God on Wednesday at the park of the Francophonie.

This wall of decibels, made up of guttural vocals, ultra-fast drumming and heavy guitars at will, was not for the mild.
For almost five deafening hours, several shades of metal, from death to black, passing through progressive and thrash, served as a sound backdrop to an intense session of release.
Highlight of the evening, the American quintet Lamb of God gave metal lovers their money’s worth, who were present in large numbers for this first evening without rain since Sunday.
What to say ? With his continuously angry air, singer Randy Blythe, who has had his hair cut since the group’s visit to the Videotron Center in 2022, led a bombardment in order during which Lamb of God reviewed his repertoire of 20 years by drawing equally from almost all of his albums.
It’s hard to identify one or more highlights in this rolling fire of metalcore embellished with jets of flame. Let’s say that the explosive introduction on Memento Mori set fire to the floor, where festival-goers engaged in several giant rounds (circle pit) in addition to indulging profusely in crowd surfing.
A child on the stage
These two extreme activities were also very popular during the concerts presented earlier in the evening, mainly during the very agitated performance of Fit For An Autopsyduring which it brewed plumb near the fences, following the passage of the Quebecers Fuudge and the French Celeste.
It was oddly quieter during the yet equally electric performance of the Ontarians of Protest The Hero, yet second in the established order of importance of the evening, following Lamb of God.
You can’t really blame it on the musicians, starting with lead singer Rody Walker, a guy who doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously and knows how to flout the codes of the show.
“Do you know a good way to have easy cheers? Are you excited to see Lamb of God?”
Walker also decided to encourage the next metal generation by inviting a boy spotted in the crowd onto the stage. The kid did not understand a word of English, but was able to greet Quebec and make the sign of the devil’s horns before returning to his seat.
To this end, we might see other children among the festival-goers who were not wearing earplugs. Considering the decibel level, you can’t say it was particularly responsible.
