Explosion that left two dead and eleven injured

What should have been a day of recreation turned into absolute chaos when a boiler explosion in the pool area shook the place, leaving two dead and at least eleven people injured.

The images that have circulated on social networks show the magnitude of the damage: destroyed vehicles, collapsed walls and, above all, the pain of the affected families.

The tragedy has raised alarm bells among local authorities, who are now investigating the exact causes of what happened.

What has been revealed so far

The fateful incident occurred on the afternoon of Sunday, September 29, 2024 in Mesitas del Colegio, a popular tourist destination located about four hours from Bogotá.

Among the deceased is David Cruz, an employee who had been working there for 30 years, and MarĂa Dominga Campos, a street vendor. Authorities immediately responded to the incident, with the Cundinamarca fire department, the Civil Defense and the National Police deploying resources to address the emergency.

The injured people, who include three minors, were transferred to the Nuestra Señora del Carmen hospital, where they continue under medical observation. Although authorities have confirmed that it was an accident, the community is on alert and many question whether the safety inspections previously carried out at the facilities were sufficient to prevent the tragedy.

The hypotheses of the case

The explosion exposed serious flaws in the resort’s security measures. Although the boiler had been previously inspected, this was not enough to prevent the tragedy. Furthermore, the human and material losses are significant, affecting workers and tourists alike.

The lack of clarity about the causes of the accident and concerns about possible negligence also aggravate the situation.
