(CNN) — A violent explosion rocked the center of the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, near the presidential palace, according to what eyewitnesses told CNN journalists in Sudan, on Wednesday, pointing to thick smoke rising over the area.
The news comes following the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces agreed on a seven-day truce (from 4 to 11 May) and to send representatives to peace talks “to be held at an agreed location of their choosing,” South Sudan’s foreign ministry said in a statement Tuesday. While neither side commented on that.
The United Nations had stated in a report published, on Tuesday, on its official website: “The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees estimates that more than 100,000 refugees have fled Sudan so far to neighboring countries.. The International Organization for Migration estimates that more than 334,000 people They have been displaced inside Sudan.”
The report pointed out that “the prices of basic commodities – fuel, basic foodstuffs and bottled water – have increased by between 40 and 60 percent or more in some areas.”
