An explosion occurred Wednesday evening in a row house in Mouscron. The father of the family was burned in the face and admitted to the Lille Hospital Center in France, we learned on Thursday from the Wapi firefighters.
The Wallonia Picardy emergency services were alerted on Wednesday evening, shortly before 8:00 p.m., that an explosion had occurred in a home on rue Saint Antoine, in the Marlière district of Mouscron. Coming from the Évregnies barracks, a pumper, a tanker truck, a ladder truck, several ambulances and a command vehicle were dispatched to the site.
The explosion occurred in the kitchen of the house. According to initial findings, it was the overheating of an aerosol can, placed near a stove, which was the cause of the explosion. The accommodation was occupied by a couple and their two young children. The father was seriously burned on the face. After being stabilized by emergency workers, the victim was transferred to the Lille Hospital Center. The mother and her two children were admitted for a check-up at the Mouscron Hospital Center.
Under the violence of the explosion, the facade of the house suffered significant damage. Many bricks fell onto the sidewalk. No one was hurt. An expert is expected on site to determine if the home is still stable and if the occupants can return to their homes. Brigitte Aubert, the mayor of Mouscron, went to the scene of the explosion.
