RIYADH: Rubu al-Khali or Empty Quarter is the world’s largest uninhabited land and one of the largest sand deserts. Environmentalists believe that there are no ostriches here. But a few people who traveled through this desert got five big eggs from here. Preliminary examination revealed that it was an ostrich egg.

The eggs were found in the sand while traveling through the desert. There are also some remains of eggs nearby. How the eggs got there when there were no ostriches in the barren empty quarter needs further investigation. The strange discovery is thought to lead to a deeper investigation. There has been a demand to check the age of eggs.

Rubu-ul-Khali covers regarding one-third of the southern part of the Arabian subcontinent. The word means an empty quarter. It is spread across the southern part of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman and Yemen. Fossils, bones, ancient scripts and inscriptions are found in the Arabian Peninsula.

The Arabian Ostrich is an extinct species. Ostriches imported from Africa are now seen in protected forest areas. We need to ascertain whether the egg is from an African ostrich or an Arabian ostrich. Therefore, some people on social media asked to inform the concerned departments and open the way for further research studies.

Archaeologists have previously found ostrich eggs in sand pits in the desert region of Nafud Dalkhan and rock paintings and inscriptions on Mount Musaikhala. Many bird and animal marks were also identified. Paintings and petroglyphs have been found depicting ostriches, lions, eagles, etc., depicting a variety of creatures and environments.

A week ago, a 200,000-year-old ax was found in the Saudi desert. An international team of archaeologists has discovered a hand ax from the Paleolithic era. The 51.3 cm long ax is made from basalt stone. It was obtained from the desert in the plain of Qurh, south of AlUla. A foreign scientific team under the supervision of the Al-Ula Royal Commission has been conducting exploration work here for years. 11 archaeological projects are underway at Aula and Khyber under the auspices of the Al Ula Royal Commission.
