Hello fellow travelers
After many years of scarcity, I am in the process of organizing a stay in the USA. After some hesitation on the choice (initially idea of the East Coast), my attraction for the West is still too strong. Before going any further, know that I have always organized my (10) road trips: California from SF to SD via the deserts, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Nevada (where I got married for real real…) I landed in LA, SF, LV, Phoenix, Denver. All this to tell you that I am not a novice, but listening and everyone’s experiences are always assets and preparing for a trip is done (in my opinion) by sharing.
And besides, Oregon, I don’t know. Another great novelty: this time I will make this trip alone.
I don’t do it very early, wishing to leave around September 9th. But it can do it.
I am starting this post to get opinions from travelers who have made this journey. I’m always looking for good tips, and unusual places. Of course there will be the classics (Crater Lake for example), but do not hesitate to talk regarding your experiences during your visits to them.
Several parameters are added: A recalcitrant knee that I am finalizing to treat, + it is my very first trip alone.
I plan to leave for 14 days. Land in Seattle (so as not to struggle with stopovers from Paris) – Rent an SUV
An idea of course (draft very very very summarized):
Seattle – Portland
Portland – The states park by route 30
Descend to Cove and Smith Rock – Bend
Continue and stop at Crater Lake
Join the 101 and go up it to Bottle Beach SP (Washington state)
Join Seattle for departure.
I would see for the hotels, I used to book only on the very busy corners, the rest, haphazardly. I loved the historic railroad that I did twice between Silverton and Durango. I found a Garibaldi – Rockaway Beach train, to see what it’s worth.
In my multiple questions:

Is it ‘mandatory’ to hike a lot for the visits? What do you think of the draft route and the duration of the journey? Travel alone: opinions and advice in this state? What not to miss? Cool activities? Unusual places, recommended hotels, restaurants etc…
Thank you in advance to all those who will take a little of their time to write to me in order to share their experiences.
