“I am fascinated by the grid, these lines which form an ideal universe where everything comes together, life, death… This creates a sort of protection once morest a modern and frightening world,” explains Solène Lescouët, 30, stylist who made tartan, this colorful squared pattern of Scottish origin, one of the trademarks of his very young label of the same name. Navigating between Victorian spirit and punk radicalism, his creations dare to use tartan in a maxi-collar version or crinoline dress with wide leg-of-mutton sleeves. The young woman also cites as inspiration Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen, couturiers who made this centuries-old weaving one of their distinctive signs.
