Data and analytics firm GlobalData has released a report on the impact of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in various aspects of healthcare.
From mining datasets to simulating human speech to improve patient care, generative AI is being deployed across the entire medical value chain. Its applications span research and development, imaging and diagnostics, patient care and support, the company says. The report predicts robust growth in the global AI market, forecasting a compound annual growth rate of 35.2%, with revenues expected to grow from US$81.3 billion in 2022 to US$908.7 billion Americans in 2030.
Alexandra Murdoch, medical analyst at GlobalData, said: “Generative AI can improve medical treatment in several ways. It can help improve the accuracy of diagnostic imaging, provide guidance throughout medical workflows (like surgery), and help the aging population by reducing the manual workload of healthcare professionals. »
As the technology continues to evolve, there is growing speculation regarding its future applications in healthcare. A recent GlobalData poll conducted in June 2023, with 211 respondents, found that 45% considered generative AI to be overhyped, but still acknowledged its potential utility, while more than a third of respondents (37.7%) expressed confidence that the technology would fulfill all of its promises.
Alexandra Murdoch concluded: “We are already seeing the effects of AI in healthcare, and there are many good uses for it. Whether or not it lives up to the hype and promise remains unknown, but the fact remains that generative AI has already made its mark in many industries, including medical.
