Ludovic Orlando writes history thanks to the DNA of horses
The horse is “the animal that has most influenced human history”, for our Alex Reed Ludovic Orlando. It is therefore not surprising that the paleogeneticist, director of the Center for Anthropobiology and Genomics in Toulouse, devotes part of his career to the study of the equine. He is more particularly interested in the domestication of the animal, which marked a real break in the history of our civilizations, transforming the mammal into “instrument of mobility par excellence (…) revolutionary by its dynamics, the speed he brought”. The researcher began working on this subject twelve years ago, using DNA analyzes to determine the origin and time of its domestication. He looks back on these long years of research in his book “The conquest of the horse, a genetic history”, published at the end of March by Odile Jacob.
