The commercial area available in the future Mons station is nearly 1,900 m², specifies the SNCB spokesperson. By comparison, that of Liège-Guillemins is 2,800 m² and that of Brussels-Midi 8,200 m².
The commercial mix, or the allocation of shops, is defined according to the urban commercial fabric in the direct vicinity of the station (in this case, that of the city center and the Grands Prés), travelers’ requests for basic services (coffee, pastries, sandwiches, press and tobacco) and the types of travelers (commuters, students, international, tourism, etc.) who frequent the station, adds the railway company. SNCB is also planning an area to set up station counters, public toilets and cash dispensers.
For the Mons station, a first wave of calls for tenders was closed on December 16, 2022, the date on which candidates were invited to submit their application file. (A next phase of calls for tenders will follow soon; they are published on the site www.sncb.be/immo). If the SNCB has already concluded a collaboration with the Ambroise Paré hospital for the space intended for blood sampling, the procedure is not yet finished for the commercial spaces, even if the candidates are not lacking, assures the SNCB, and that the first files are in the final allocation phase.
Each call for tenders defines the type of assignment of the commercial area. In particular, SNCB provides for assignments of the type Horeca offering food and drink to take away and a small supermarket. A shop of gifts for touristsa shop of telecoma point of sale of «healthy food» (healthy food), a floristand fast-food…
SNCB does not mention any price for these commercial locations: “Candidate concessionaires propose a royalty offer in their offer with a detailed business plan”.
