1. Burlington, Vermont

You can’t really go wrong with a trip to Burlington. On the shores of Lake Champlain, just 2 hours from the metropolis, you will discover local shops, cafes and restaurants as well as hiking options and a particularly relaxed atmosphere. To put on your list: the August First for lunch at any time of the day and the bookstore Crow Bookshop to find new or used books. 2. Plattsburgh, New York

Affectionately known as “Little Boston,” Portland seduces with its cobblestone roads and the scent of fish that pierces the city. Mandatory stops in Portland are: try the potato donuts at Holy Donut, eat a lobster roll at Highroller Lobster Co., grab a coffee at Bard Coffeevisit the art galleries and boutiques of the Old Port and take a boat ride to conquer the Peaks Island (and eat a Neapolitan pizza at The lion).

Obviously the seaside resorts of Ogunquit and Old Orchard remain excellent options if you want to visit Maine.

5. Parc national Acadia et Bar Harbor, Maine

North of Portland, le parc national Acadia is a dream for hikers with its 250 km of trails (!), but also for strollers. It sits on Mount Desert Island and is glued to one of Maine’s prettiest little towns: Bar Habor. Fishing port, mountains, seaside, typical New England houses, shops, bars and restaurants await you (as well as many other happy tourists!). A must in the area: the beach Sand Beach in the very heart of Acadia National Park, over which you will have a magical view if you do the Beehive Trail (2.3 km).

Explore the capital of New York State by choosing Albany as your next destination roadtrip. During your visit, try to visit the majestic Empire State Plaza, take a photo in front of the New York Capitol, try a real New York hot dog at Gus’s Hot Dogsvisit the “hipster” neighborhood via Lark Street, catch a movie under the stars at Jericho Drive In, party at Fuz Box and more!

7. Saratoga Springs, New York

From horse racing and Victorian homes, to hiking trails and trendy restaurants, consider checking out Saratoga Springs the next time you hit the road. Our favorites remain: The Saratoga Spa State Parka hike to the Geyser Creek Trail, S Broadway Street for cafes, bars and restaurants, a picnic on the edge of Saratoga Lake and snapping photos in front of the Stars Hollow-worthy Victorian homes in Gilmore Girls. For restaurants, we encourage you to try The Night Owl et Osteria Danny (close to Saratoga Race Course).

8. Portsmouth, New Hampshire

5 hours from Montreal

The New Hampshire coast is only 30 km long, but it is worth the trip. Stuck on the Maine, Portsmouth is one of the nuggets to discover. It is a pleasure to stroll through the heart of this historic city, stopping for a lobster roll (au Old Ferry Landing), a micro beer (at Earth Eagle Brewings) or a pastry (at Ceres Bakery). Outside the center, we rent a paddle board (ici) to sail through the islands of Newcastle, we eye the very chic historic hotel Wentworth by the Sea and we join the surfers on the beach Jenness State Beach from Rye.

9. New York City, New York

10. Cape Cod, Massachusetts

For picturesque coastal villages, legendary lighthouses, delectable lobster rolls and soft sand beaches, Cape Cod is the perfect getaway just 6 or 7 hours from Montreal. South of Massachusetts, Cape Cod is (technically) an island. You have to take the Sagamore or Bourne bridges to get there. Once there, be sure to visit The Lobster Pot, a veritable institution with a facade frozen in time in Provincetown. Otherwise, Race Point Beach in Provincetown, Mayflower Beach in Dennis, Harding Beach in Chatham and Coast Guard Beach in Eastham are great options if you dream of a beach break.

11. Lake George, New York
