As problems with the execution of the death penalty mount, several US states are looking for new methods of execution. The idea of taking people’s air to breathe via the supply of nitrogen is increasingly coming into focus again. It is sold under the name “nitrogen hypoxia”, although it is not a medical term is a word invented by friends of this execution method, which is supposed to sound scientific. At its core, it is about removing the necessary oxygen from the air breathed by convicts so that they only breathe pure nitrogen.
