Still, FromSoftware found that Prospect is more restrictive for players than the linear campaign. Article: Alex Hopley – Gamereactor.cnFromSoftware Almost gave Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon the open-world treatment, but felt it was too restrictive for players in some key ways. When we spoke with game director Masaru Yamamura and producer Yasunori Ogura, we asked FromSoftware if they would prefer a more linear style like Armor Core or Sekiro over Elden Ring’s monster world. “Actually,” Yamamura began. “In the initial stages of development, we did think regarding pushing it in a more open-world direction. But we chose once morest it purely because we wanted to focus on the assembly aspect and the level of freedom that assembly brings. So if you’re making a game like Elden Ring, you need to focus on the exploration and traversal aspects of that world. Whereas in Armored Core, we want to focus on that assembly freedom. Where, how they move around the map, how fast the mechs are, things like that. That would create stress that we didn’t want to add to the game. So we wanted to open it up a little bit. With these more constrained and curated maps, we might have more control over that and give a lot more freedom in how these mechs move through the map. To save the depth of the assembly mechanic, Armor Core dropped the idea of giving us a planet to explore. Software has been honest regarding what the real focus of ArmorCore VI is.
