Exploring Saudi Arabia’s Diplomatic Moves: A Potential Saudi Village at Invalides for the 2024 Olympic Games

As the Olympic Games approach, a Saudi village, installed on the Invalides site, in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, might see the light of day, for four months and from May 10, 2024.

While the war in the Middle East continues to rage between Hamas and Israel, Saudi Arabia is trying to place its pawns, by conducting “soft” diplomacy, under the aegis of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS).

Hosting the Olympic Games in Paris (from July 26 to August 11) might well be a new pretext for Saudi Arabia to strengthen its attractiveness on the international scene. Invited to respond on Wednesday February 28 to the National Assembly on a project to develop a Saudi village, on the very site of Les Invalides from May 10, 2024 and for a period of 4 months, Patricia Mirallès, secretary of State responsible for Veterans and Memory, kicked in.

“I will try to answer what I know. Indeed, this is information that we were able to obtain. Today, nothing is concrete and nothing is done. I understand your questions but I will not respond to things that have not been done, nor signed with any agreement,” she hastened to respond, raising an outcry in the Assembly.

In recent years, several Saudi investment funds have invested massively in French construction. Each year, the Center of National Monuments spends between 27 and 30 million euros for restoration projects, excluding special operations.
