32nd National Pearl Festival concludes in Kuwait About 60 divers went ‘in search of pearls’ at the annual festival held under the patronage of Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah. The Kuwait Pearl Diving Festival, which began on Saturday in search of pearls, evoked vivid memories of tradition. The organizers are Kuwait Sea Club. The National Pearling Festival is a reenactment of the memories of their forefathers’ adventures in the seas and the main livelihood of pearl collecting.
Pearling is very difficult and fraught with danger. About 60 Kuwaiti divers left Salmiya coast for Khairan Island in two boats. They spent six days in Khairan Island and returned yesterday. The sailors, who arrived with the sunken heritage from the sea, were greeted by families and friends waiting on shore, singing traditional Kuwaiti songs and clapping their hands.
Industry Minister and Youth Affairs Minister Mohammad Al-Aiban, UK Ambassador to Kuwait Belinda Lewis and Kuwait Sea Sports Club Chairman Fahd Al Fahd attended the closing ceremony. Kuwaitis are very proud of traditional glory and preservation of heritage. That’s why they give great importance to the Muthuvaral festival which takes place every year. The pearl diving festival was held this time following a gap of three years, which was not held due to covid.
