“Exploring Flanders’ Dynamic Labor Market: Opportunities for Foreign Workers to Fill Vacant Positions”

“The labor market in Flanders is very dynamic, they are almost at full employment. Employers are ready to welcome a lot of foreign workers to fill vacant positions”, explains Bernard Clerfayt, Brussels Minister for Employment.

With 88,000 job seekers, the labor market in the Brussels region is, on the contrary, saturated. “The vast majority of job seekers are unskilled or unskilled, while the jobs available in Brussels are highly skilled. There is therefore a difference between supply and demand”specifies Romain Adam, spokesperson for Actiris.

If the employment rate of Ukrainian refugees is considerably higher in Flanders compared to Brussels, this would therefore be explained by more work opportunities on the other side of the border, with less requirements on the qualification of candidates.

Today, almost all Ukrainian diplomas are still not recognized in Belgium, whereas “60% of refugees are highly qualified” adds Romain Adam. “The Ukrainians who arrive are therefore often directed towards low-skilled jobs that do not correspond to their skills”.
