This was introduced by sorae in an article on March 24, 2023.Wolf-Rayet star “WR 124” photographed by the Webb Space Telescope“is.

WR 124, shining in the center of the image, is surrounded by a halo made up of large amounts of gas and dust ejected from the star.

A Wolf-Rayet star is an evolved form of a massive O-type star, and is nearing the end of its short life span of less than 10 million years. It is thought that the high-temperature inner layers of Wolf-Rayet stars are exposed due to large amounts of hydrogen being ejected from the star’s outer layers and lost in the stellar wind.

WR 124 has a mass 30 times that of the Sun, and is thought to have released gas and dust equivalent to the mass of 10 Suns. A Wolf-Rayet star will eventually explode as a supernova and end its life as a star, but the gas and dust emitted before the explosion, as well as the heavy elements produced during the explosion, will be used to form new stars and planets. It is thought that it can be used as a material.
