After two successive cancellations, NASA has scheduled the launch of its Artemis 1 mega-rocket on September 23 or 27.
Two dates on the program
During a press conference on Thursday 8 September, the NASA announced possible shooting windows, September 23 or 27. The September 23 launch will begin at 6:47 a.m. (local times). While that of the 27th will open at 11:37 a.m. (local times).
On September 3, the second launch attempt was canceled following a fuel leak. “We will leave when we are ready. This is part of our space programs, being prepared for cancellations“, had then explained the administrator of NASA, Bill Nelson.
A crucial flight for NASA
According to Bill Nelson, a new launch window was to open in early October, due to the scheduled flight of two astronauts from the NASA. This is a Russian cosmonaut for the international space station and an astronaut from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (Jaxa).
Without a crew on board, this test flight is eagerly awaited for the Artemis 1 mission. In particular, it must test the Orion capsule at its top and the SLS (Space Launch System) rocket in real conditions.
