A couple from Liège were sentenced on Wednesday by the Liège criminal court following exploiting the prostitution of 11 victims of Latin American origin. The defendant, a double repeat offender, was sentenced to 4 years in prison and a fine of 44,000 euros. His partner was sentenced to 30 months in prison and a suspended fine of 44,000 euros.

Since 2018, the couple had rented a building in the center of Liège to set up a prostitution center. This couple rented apartments by the week and specialized in a network of prostitutes of Latin American origin.

In total, 11 people were identified. These victims were staying precariously in Belgium and had to work clandestinely to ensure their survival. They constituted, according to the court, ideal prey for the defendants, who described themselves as good Samaritans active in the rental of apartments.

The prosecution estimated the illegal assets made by the defendants at 595,000 euros.

The court took into account the seriousness of the facts and the absence of questioning by the defendants. The man, who had played a leading role, finds himself in a state of double legal recidivism. He was sentenced to 4 years in prison and fined 44,000 euros. His partner was sentenced to 30 months in prison and a suspended fine of 44,000 euros. The court also ordered the confiscation of 50,000 euros of illegal assets.
