Islamabad The High Court ordered the Ministry of Defense to transfer the Public Relations Department of the Army (ISPR) has sought an answer regarding legality.

Justice Babar Sattar of the Islamabad High Court has issued a written order for the hearing and has sought an answer from the Ministry of Defense that ‘What is the legal standing of the ISPR? Why does the ISPR consider the determination of defense analysts as its exclusive authority?’

PEMRA had issued a notification on April 4, 2019, reviewing the defense issues of retired army officers during Imran Khan’s regime.

According to the petitioner Colonel Retired Inam, PEMRA also made a condition of ISPR clearance for the analysts that the names or list would come from the Public Relations Department of the Pakistan Army and contacted them to give defense analysis in TV channels. will go

In this regard, according to the written order of the Islamabad High Court, the court inquired that what authority does PEMRA have to regulate the content of TV channels? What is the authority of first clearance of those who express their views on TV channels?’

Apart from this, according to the order, PEMRA’s counsel referred the court to Section 20 of the PEMRA Ordinance and said that this provision deals with the responsibility of TV channels to protect national security, integrity and sovereignty.

The court asked that ‘What is the relationship of the first clearance of analysts with national security and sovereignty?

“Why did Pemra feel the need to issue such a circular, has the Armed Forces or ISPR made any such request.”

Pemra’s counsel has sought time to answer these questions.

The Islamabad High Court has adjourned the hearing till November 24 by calling for original records.
