From 2025, the first cancellations of students will begin, according to the provisions that were voted, two years ago, in the Parliament.
1. What will be the upper limit of attendance?
The maximum duration of study in a first-cycle study program with a minimum duration of eight (8) academic semesters for the award of the degree is this time, increased by four (4) academic semesters.
In the case of study programs whose minimum time exceeds eight academic semesters, the maximum duration of study is the minimum study time, increased by six (6) academic semesters.
This means that after the maximum attendance limit, students will be removed from the University.
3. The cancellations also concern those already studying at Greek Universities, the acc. year 2020-21, when the relevant provisions were passed?
The regulation will apply to incoming students of the academic year 2021-22, while for those already studying the acc. year 2020-21 there is a transitional provision.
4. What will apply to those already registered in art. year 2020-21, but had not then exceeded the minimum period of study?
For the students who were already registered the acc. year 2020-21 and have not exceeded the minimum period of study, the calculation of the maximum period of study starts from the beginning of the academic year 2021-22 and extends until the completion of the minimum period of study, increased by four semesters for four-year studies and by six semesters for five- or six-year courses.
Example if a student who will be in the 3rd year in the next academic year 2021-22, in a four-year department, has six (4+2) years left. Then it is deleted.
Accordingly, if the department is a five-year course, it has eight (5+3) years remaining, starting this calculation from the next academic year 2021-2022.
5. What will apply to students who have already exceeded the minimum period of study?
Students who have already exceeded the minimum study time are given additional study time equal to the minimum study time of their department, starting the calculation from the next academic year 2021-22.
For example, if a student is (in the academic year 2020-21) in the tenth year of a four-year course, he has the right to study for another four years, starting from the next academic year 2021-22. Accordingly, if the department is a five-year course, it has another five years.
6. Why does the Ministry of Education give more total study time to those who are already enrolled in a year within the minimum study period, as well as to the so-called “perpetual” students, compared to those who will be admitted from the following year?
There is a legal issue here. There was an assessment by lawyers of the Ministry of Education that the provision could be challenged, for lack of justified trust in the State, if the attendance limit for already registered students was too narrow.
7. Will there be student cancellations?
Upon completion of the maximum duration of study, the Dean’s Office of the School is obliged to issue a deed of deletion.
8. If a University refuses to delist students, as was done in the past with Law 4009/11, will there be repercussions?
For these Universities there will be a “penalty” in terms of funding.
9. If a student has health problems is he/she removed?
The internal regulations of the HEI define the procedural details and supporting documents for exceptionally exceeding the maximum duration of study for serious health reasons related to the person of the student or the person of a first-degree blood relative or spouse or person with whom the student has enter into a cohabitation agreement
10. If a student has objective reasons that do not allow him to complete his studies in the time provided by the above regulation, will he be deleted?
Students who are proven to work at least twenty (20) hours a week, students with disabilities as well as athletes during their studies belong to sports clubs registered in the Registry of the General Secretariat of Sports and
ba) for the number of years they take the distinction of 1st to 8th place in pan-Hellenic individual sports championships with the participation of at least 12 athletes and 8 clubs or compete in teams of the two highest categories in team sports or participate as members of national teams in pan-European championships, world championships or other international events under the Hellenic Olympic Committee, or
bb/ participate at least once, during their studies in the study program for which they are applying for part-time status, in Olympic Games and Deaf Olympic Games, they may be registered as part-time students, after their application is approved by the dean’s office of the school.
11. What applies to students enrolled in part-time study?
For students who have been subject to partial study status, each semester in which they study under this status is counted as half an academic semester and they cannot register to attend and be examined in a number greater than half of the semester’s courses provided for in the study program .
12. Can students interrupt their studies?
Students may, upon application to the dean’s office of their faculty, interrupt their studies for a period not exceeding two years. Student status is suspended during the interruption of studies.
