Experts share experiences on the merger of Customs and Internal Taxes

Asunción, IP Agency.- Experts from different countries meet in Asunción to share experiences in pursuit of strengthening the administrations that have the functions of Customs and Internal Taxes integrated.

This Wednesday the opening of the international seminar “Key Elements for Successful Management of Integrated Customs and Internal Tax Administrations” was held in Asunción, organized by the National Directorate of Tax Revenue (DNIT) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The event takes place on Paseo La Galería and will last until May 10 with the objective of analyzing strategic, tactical and operational aspects that allow strengthening the administrations that have integrated the functions of Customs and Internal Taxes.

During the opening, Orué emphasized the need to apply best practices with the help of experts from different countries who have experience in the fusion of Customs and Internal Taxes, not only to increase collection, but to provide quality services.

“Especially the use of technologies, procedures, data exchanged between management, which is something that seems very important to us,” he indicated.

He mentioned that the meeting brings together experts from countries such as; Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, Peru, Spain, which according to him allows the construction of more suitable and efficient procedures to achieve better collection.

Although he admitted that the DNIT has already reached its initial goal of achieving 1 percent of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in revenue, he announced that they will continue working to achieve greater results and, above all, to consolidate the institution.

“I thank the IMF for coming to hold a seminar in which representatives of different organizations and countries are here in Asunción sharing experiences and growing, with the desire to improve their institutions and, in turn, for the countries to have the resources to face their challenges.” public policies”, he expressed.

A risk management system, redoubling efforts in subsequent controls and having an integrated data system are, in the opinion of Oscar Orué, the points that Paraguay should focus on, considering that the DNIT has been created for less than a year.

Likewise, the senior state official valued the support given by the IMF to the Paraguayan Government since the decision to merge Customs with the defunct Undersecretary of State for Taxation (SET). “This meeting will allow us to know what the path is from now on and what we can improve to achieve that efficiency that we long for as an institution,” he finally emphasized.
