Experts estimate decrease in inflation at the end of 2022 | Economy

Along the same lines as government projections, experts estimate that by the end of 2022 a decrease in inflation rates might be generated.

After months of continuous increase, and following the projections of the Minister of Finance, MarioMarcel, who assures that in the last quarter of the year, the first falls in inflation will be seen.

Next Monday, the National Institute of Statistics (INE) will reveal the Consumer Price Index for July.

One of the doubts circulating in the market is when an inflation ceiling might be reached in the local economy.

The June report showed an increase of 0.9 percentage points in the prices of the basic basket, which brought annual inflation to 12.5%, its highest level since 1994.

The economist and academic from the Universidad del Desarrollo, Felipe Berger, estimated that the CPI would rise by 1%, with which year-on-year inflation would be 14%.

Possible drop in inflation in Chile

In this sense, he pointed out that the economic aid of the Government must be carried out with caution.


The economist from the University of Chile, Pablo Barberis agreed with the Government’s vision and estimated that inflation would begin to fall in the last quarter, although in 2023 it would continue at levels above the 3% goal set by the Banco Central.

The economist and director of the Center for Real Estate Studies, Luz Maria Koch, For his part, he explained that to speak of a turning point, the factors that drive the rise in prices must be evaluated, such as the value of raw materials, oil or the dollar.

Regarding projections, he estimated that in the coming months inflation will be around 11%.

Given the advance in inflation, at the last Monetary Policy meeting, the Board of the Central Bank of Chile increased the benchmark interest rate by 75 basis points, reaching 9.75%.
