A team of Wall Street analysts from the Swiss bank UBS dismantled the BYD Seal to find out how the electric sedan compares to the Tesla Model 3, a model that is one of the best-selling in the sustainable car segment. According to the executives’ assessment, the Chinese automaker’s version proves to be a great option for new owners.
It manages to deliver features similar to the Model 3, but with the advantage of costing up to 20% less than the version created by Elon Musk. Although the low price is one of its strong points, the car also stands out for having other benefits, including greater internal space, rotating central screen and 5G connectivity.

The Chinese vehicle also has as a positive point BYD’s cell-to-body battery technology, which significantly improves the EV Seal’s internal space by offering greater leg area. This advantage can be a decisive factor for larger people, increasing comfort, especially for long trips.
“The cabin carpet is located directly above the battery, and the top battery cover acts as the body floor, eliminating an additional layer of aluminum or steel,” the analysts said. The modern and elegant look of the BYD Seal is on par with the Tesla Model 3, but this is an issue that must be evaluated individually by each customer.
The team at Swiss bank UBS found that BYD chose to adopt an autonomous driving system offered by third-party companies, managing to deliver satisfactory performance to the driver. According to a BYD market report, the Chinese brand sold just over 253,000 vehicles in June this year, corresponding to an increase of 89% in 12 months.
BYD surpassed Tesla and became the best-selling electric vehicle brand globally in the first half of 2022, but Musk’s company remains in the running, recording production of 480,000 vehicles and sales of 466,000 in the 1st quarter.
