Experts call for a truce for 6 months.. Has artificial intelligence become a threat to humans?

American billionaire Elon Musk and a group of artificial intelligence experts have called for a 6-month halt to developing systems more powerful than the “GBT4 Chat” bot, citing the potential risks of such applications.

An open letter issued by the Future of Life Institute states that advanced AI systems should be developed only when certain that their effects are positive and that their risks are under control.

The manufacturer of ChatGBT4 did not respond to this letter, which demanded that it stop its work in developing artificial intelligence systems.

In turn, the American newspaper “Washington Post” warned that the artificial intelligence revolution will bring the world to a stage fraught with dangers, especially in the educational aspect.

Expanding the scope of human failures

An article by the President of the Ford Foundation and the President of General Catalyst stated that machine learning is poised to fundamentally reshape everything.

The newspaper also indicated that artificial intelligence has the ability to expand the scope of all human failures, including ignoring civil liberties and condemning racism, sectarianism, and inequality.

Mostafa Hamdi, a research professor in artificial intelligence, explained that international organizations, including UNESCO, have recently issued a number of texts that legalize the use of artificial intelligence and encourage the bright side to use it in various fields.

In an interview with Al-Araby from Tunisia, Hamdi said that there is an awakening and awareness among investors in artificial intelligence and emerging companies regarding the risks of artificial intelligence, especially following the publication of the fourth version of “GBT Chat”.

He explained that the aim of offering this six-month truce is to enable countries and governments to employ artificial intelligence in a transparent and safe manner without it being a source of danger to young people in education and other sectors.

He explained that the dangers of these programs lie in their self-learning ability, and therefore they can be used to spread misleading and false news, for example, during election campaigns, which poses a threat to democracy.

He pointed out that artificial intelligence technologies can replace many professions, not to mention that the rapid development in the design of these programs does not allow predicting their future.
