Experts advocate supplementary HPV injections for female middle school students

The Scientific Committee on Vaccine-Preventable Diseases under the Center for Health Protection held a meeting the day before yesterday. After the meeting, it was suggested that the government should supplement cervical cancer (HPV) vaccination for all secondary school girls and girls aged 18 or below in Hong Kong. At the same time, the Committee recommends that people over the age of 15 can reduce the number of injections from three to two.

Liu Yulong: Expanding the scope of free vaccinations is a virtuous policy

Liu Yulong, chairman of the committee, said that the HPV vaccine is currently expensive and not everyone can afford it. He described the expansion of free vaccination to all female secondary school students in Hong Kong as a virtuous policy and a very important public health policy. He went on to say that there are reliable studies to support that people over the age of 15 can save one injection, and he believes that the cost savings will allow more people to get injections.

Liu Yulong also pointed out that this can be used to reflect on the dosage of the new crown vaccine. I personally think that three shots are enough for most people. “Continuous and progressive vaccination of the new crown vaccine is not a solution.”
