Expert Survey Predicts Next Pandemic to be Caused by Influenza Virus – The Guardian Report

An international survey by The Guardian revealed on Saturday 20 April 2024 that the majority of experts believe the next pandemic will be caused by an influenza virus.

According to an international investigation revealed by the guards this Saturday, April 20, 2024, 57% of leading infectious disease experts – 187 polled – believe that a strain of the influenza virus will be the cause of the next global epidemic.

Influenza, the next pandemic?

“Every winter the flu appears, we can call these epidemics small pandemics. They are more or less controlled because the different strains that cause them are not virulent enough – but this will not necessarily be the case forever.”explains Jon Salmanton-García, researcher at the University of Cologne who led the study.

Disease “X”

For 21% of the researchers participating in the study, the second most likely cause of a pandemic, following influenza, would be an “X” disease, that is, a pathogen that is as yet unknown. This hypothesis has been particularly studied by the Committee for Monitoring and Prevention of Health Risks (Covars), which succeeded the Swedish Research Council, which was responsible for informing public authorities regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.

15% believe that the coronavirus might return and be the cause of a new pandemic. But “Influenza remains very much the No. 1 threat in terms of pandemic potential in the eyes of a large majority of global scientists.”according to Jon Salmanton-Garcían, i the British newspaper.

He goes on to say that “Every winter the flu appears. We can describe these epidemics as small pandemics. They are more or less controlled because the different strains that cause them are not virulent enough, but this will not necessarily be the case forever.”

Two days earlier, the World Health Organization (WHO) was extremely concerned regarding the increasing spread of the H5N1 strain of bird flu into new species.

People can become infected with this virus if they come into contact with infected animals. This pollution demonstrated “high mortality”. It may in the future be transmitted from person to person.
