Dr. Roberto Baquero, an ophthalmologist at the Universidad del Rosario, spoke at the Salud y Algo Más microphones regarding eye health and the care that should be taken to avoid vision problems.

According to the expert, “it is good to have your eyes checked periodically (…) as a child, before entering school, it is important to do so, it does not have to be every year, but it does have to be done before entering high school and then when “He leaves school because many eye problems appear that can cause a lot of headaches.”

Regarding the care that should be taken on vacation, Baquero indicated that “on the beach it is important to take care of sun exposure because the sun’s rays have ultraviolet rays and those generate the greatest oxidant. The important thing is not so much that one wears dark glasses, but that the lenses one uses have ultraviolet protection.”

Likewise, he commented that “branded glasses usually do have quite serious quality systems, they have an ultraviolet filter.”

On the other hand, the expert highlighted that “if the person has to use the computer for work, they have to take care of their eyes, they have to lubricate them, take active breaks so that the eyes do not get tired. The eye will always defend itself, but burning must be avoided.”

Regarding active pauses, he indicated that it is important “not to focus closely, but to look from afar, stretch, blink and let the eye rest.”
