She’s starting to get used to it. Françoise is 75, she lives in the center of Nice, and this is the fourth time she has caught the coronavirus. The Niçoise has had all the vaccinations recommended by her general practitioner. The last one was more than six months ago. The coronavirus therefore does not leave her and she prefers to take it with a smile: “When I was once more declared positive, I said to myself “ah damn once more”. It looks like I’m attracting this virus when I’m never sick.”
What symptoms with this new variant?
One evening, Françoise feels a severe pain in her throat, but that’s not all: “I’ve had ears pain also with the very heavy head and I cough a lot but I didn’t worry at all. This variant is less painful than the previous times.”
Usually, Françoise scrupulously follows all the advice of her doctor, but there is one recommendation that she has not respected: “It is so hot, I did not wear the mask in public transport. You can’t wear the mask all the time. In the tram in Nice, we suffocate. But you have to put it on.”
His grandson, Augustin escapes the virus
Four coronaviruses for Françoise, none for Augustin. Yet her grandson has lived with her since the start of the pandemic. But without real explanations, it was never detected positive. Françoise cannot explain it: “He lives with me though, we eat together every night and we don’t wear the mask at home. I cook for him, we live together and yet he has never had the slightest symptom or positive test“.
Augustine also has no explanation. This young man will continue to live as if the coronavirus was not there: “We’ll do as usual, I’ll stay upstairs in my space and only come down to eat. We might put a little more distance at the table, but that’s it. We are not going to change our habits“.
