The Lausanne Cycling Day is getting a makeover and, from this year 2023, becomes Vélosanne. A change of name but also of place and dates.
Formerly at the Chalet-A-Gobet, the event known as La Journée Lausanneoise du Vélo since 1982 has become, from 2023, Vélosanne and will now take place at Place de Milan in Lausanne. A date change as well. The event will take place in September and no longer in May as was the case previously. The 1st edition of Vélosanne will take place on September 9 and 10.
During the 39th edition of Lausanne Cycling Day, the latest under this name, more than 1,800 cyclists took part in the event. Were proposed, on this occasion, in particular, a mountain bike course in the Bois du Jorat, road bike circuits of 30 to 150 km through Broye and Vully or even a “hike of the leprechauns” for families.
The objective of the event was to practice cycling in optimal conditions. Without a stopwatch, the former Lausanne Bike Day was placed under the sign of relaxation and sports practice. Whether with friends, family, or colleagues, the “JVL” was a cycling party to be experienced between lovers of the little queen.
A spirit preserved for the new version of the event which now takes the form of a festival. Road bike course, mountain bike, criteriums, orientation course, fun course in town and many activities, stands and initiations are on the program. A concept unveiled in detail, on LFM, in the 6-9 with Patrice Schaub, Head of sports events for the City of Lausanne and Yaël Bitter, member of the Vélosanne committee at the microphone of Evan Kangni and Guillaume Gétaz:
